This study is about how the environmental color image of waterfront areas is perceived by people, which affective image is generated by the perception, and which behavioral reactions are accordingly brought about. Urban waterfront areas help people relieve stress as a place of leisure and rest and add value to life as a place of pleasure and culture. They also provide a prospect of water, working as a major positive factor for the city landscape image. Three waterfront areas: Banpo, Jamshil, and Ttukseom were selected for the study among the Hangang Parks. We surveyed people visiting the areas to examine which environmental factors affected creation of the image of the parks in terms of cognitive image, affective image, and behavioral reaction. The result showed that people"s image on the waterfront areas was significantly influenced by the colors of roads, public facilities, and nature. Based on the survey result, we analyzed environment colors of the waterfront areas and organized them by adjective terms for environmental design. We hope that this study could provide a guideline for design of facilities in similar waterfront areas in the future.
