The purpose of this paper is to analyze the meaning and the function of the narrative tale Donkey Eared King as a reading text in linguistic point of view. This paper especially focused on this tale with linguistic criticism, and tried to reveal that the text is related to the essence of language. The results are following.
First, the canonized textbook had been modified dramatically different structure from the source tale. So, it began to depart from the original’s main theme and also perform the function of accomplishment of dominant ideology. Theses facts are revealed not only in the text, but also the objective of chapter and practice problems in textbook.
Second, from the linguistic point of view, the source tale is a valuable as a reading text which contains the essence of language, especially the features of parole. And the text can be connected to the language related achievement standards of present curriculum.
Third, the main theme of source tale is in speech problem, which are concealing the truth, controlling the language, and communication problem etc. Especially, this tale shows that the control of language by dominant language is universal phenomena.
Fourth, this narrative tale has the considerable value which the learner can read a cross section of a human life in connection with the essence of language by re-canonization. Especially, the application of some methods, such as finding linguistic theme and the intention of remake, organizing own’s experiences related to communication, and rewriting the text, will be helpful.
From now on, it is necessary to search and describe the detailed teaching method, and also to broadly analyze the canonization of the text related to language.
