Waste rock is created when a road is constructed through rock layers containing pyrite and arsenopyrite. It could be reusing resource or hazardous waste depends on the treatment and reusing methods. However, its reuse and treatment are very limited since it flew out into acid rock drainage water with high percentage of heavy metal contained in waste rock. The main object of the study is to provide basic data for studies that focus on appropriate treatments of waste rock by analyzing pH change of an effluent and leaching characteristics of heavy metals when waste rock created during a road construction meets water and air.
For comparative effluent values of metal elements in waste rock, the reaction order for circulating water with pH 6 and air is Pb>As>Zn>Cd>Cu and for acidic for acidic water with pH 2 is Pb>>Zn>As>Cd>Cu. Also the reaction order for relative leaching ratio of the heavy level per effluent condition is same as pH 2 reaction order and the order for circulating water and air is in the order of soaking in water.
The study shows that waste rock not generate extreme acid rock drainage or leaching of heavy metal. However, the potential for leaching large amount of unstabled heavy metal elements on ore when there is low pH condition established in surrounding was confirmed.
