The purpose of this study was to investigate relations between the teaching enthusiasm of teachers and the academic engagement of students in the teaching-learning process in physical education classes. The subjects include 379 middle and high school students in Gyeonggi Province, being sampled through the convenience sampling method. Data were treated with the PASW Ver 18.0 statistical program. Multiple regression analysis was conducted. The findings were as follows: first, the teaching enthusiasm of physical education teachers had statistically significant impacts on the academic engagement(vigor) of students. Second, the teaching enthusiasm of physical education teachers also had statistically significant effects on the academic engagement(absorption) of students. Finally, the teaching enthusiasm of physical education teachers also had statistically significant influences on the academic engagement(dedication) of students.
