This research is to analyze the unique cheering culture of Lotte Giant in depth, and to understand the cheering culture. To reach this purpose, materials were collected through the participation observation, interview in depth, materials in the media and press reports and materials in the internet. The analysis of the materials was accomplished by the cultural and technical analysis of Spradley (1980). The result of this research by the investigation subjects are like these.
The constitutional factors of cheering culture of Lotte Giants are divided into the regional, star and social factors. The regional factors are comprised of the influence of Japanese baseball because of the regional location of Busan, the passion for the senior high baseball of the early base ball of 1970’s in Busan and the characteristic of the own home team made by citizens of Busan. The factors of being stars are comprised of the memorial giants who made the special memory about baseball to the fans by the excellent competence among the retired Lotte players, the present giants who are leading the activity, and the cheer leader who are leading the cheering culture. The social factors are comprised of Lotte fans who are residing in other regions, the factor of fan cafe which functions as the social link for Lotte fans, the social interchange of information interacting on the common subject which is baseball, and Utopia which connects to the to the participation in today’s sports evoking the past experiences and memories of sports.
