Noise in DTV video signals degrades the image quality. In this paper, we propose a temporal direction adaptive IIR Filter for reducing video noise effectively. Generally, the temporal filter reduces a blurring better than a spatial filter, even though phantom artifact is caused by strenuous motion. The proposed adaptive IIR filter based on a motion compensation is applied to previous and current images by noise estimation. Experimental results showed that the proposed algorithm reduced blurring and led to a stronger video noise reduction effect with less phantom artifact.
