The main theme of this study is based on the idea how to develop Korean animation industry. As we know, the Korean animation industry has concentrated its attention on infant TV animation. Although, TV animation series creates enormous benefits, the manufacture of feature animation should be increased to open new global market. However, it is true that the quality level of Korean feature animation is not as high as that of global market. Korean animation should carry out radical reforms to upgrade quality level of Korean feature animation and study what the differences between Korean pipeline and hollywood.
Therefore, This study will concentrate on the story station and layout station of major animation studios in America and analyze their pipeline. This study maybe very useful to establish more efficient operatin procedure in Korean animation industry.

한국은 2D 애니메이션의 튼튼한 기반아래에 좋은 인적 자원들을 보유하고 있다. 하지만, 애니메이션 시장이 활발하지 못하여, 좋은 인력들이 해외 또는 다른 분야로 빠져나가고 있는 실정이다. 유아용 애니메이션시장에 집중되어 있는 특수적인 국내 환경을 생각했을 때, 우수한 장편 애니메이션의 제작은 한국 애니메이션의 균형적인 발전과 글로벌 시장의 진출로 인한 시장 확장에 있어서 매우 중요한 과제라 할 수 있다. 본 연구는 한국 장편 애니메이션이 글로벌 시장으로 진출하기 위해서 어떤 발전이 필요한가라는 고민에 기초하고 있다. 특히 2014년에 한국에서 디즈니의 <겨울왕국>이 천만관객을 넘어서는 경이로운 기록을 세웠다. 이는 한국에서도 극장용 애니메이션 관객층이 형성되었다는 것을 의미한다. 그러나 아직 한국에서 제작되어 온 장편 애니메이션의 질적인 수준이 글로벌 시장인 할리우드에 진출할 만큼 충분하지 못한 것 또한 사실이다. 한국에서 제작하는 장편 애니메이션이 글로벌 시장의 눈높이에 맞추기 위해서는 할리우드 애니메이션 제작사가 어떤 제작 시스템을 갖고 있는지, 우리와 무엇이 다른지 확인해볼 필요가 있다. 현재 한국에서 장편을 제작하는 회사의 시스템을 보면 프리프로덕션 과정에서 스토리 부서가 프로덕션 과정에서는 레이아웃 부서가 부재하다는 것을 알 수 있다. 이야기를 개발하는 과정과 연출을 발전시키는 단계가 거의 형식적으로 이루어져 있으니 높은 퀄리티의 장편 애니메이션 제작이 잘 나오지 않는 것은 어떻게 보면 당연한 결과일 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 스토리 부서와 레이아웃 부서를 중심으로 할리우드 메이저 제작사에서는 어떻게 스토리를 개발하고 발전시키는지 살펴보고 아울러 레이아웃 부서에서는 어떤 방식으로 연출을 발전시키는지를 분석하는 것에 목적이 있다. 본 연구를 통해 한국 장편 애니메이션의 제작 과정이 좀 더 선진화될 수 있기를 희망하며 높은 수준의 장편 애니메이션이 제작이 한국애니메이션 시장의 발전으로 이어지기를 기대해 본다.
