This study was an investigation base on the <Giguyo>, <Jurowongyeogyangga>, <Byeongyigem> and <Baekokrusangryangmun> to verify the awareness of reality of Cho, Hwang appearing in ?Samjuksaryu?. The conventional assessment that works of Cho, Hwang is only confucian and instructive can be the analysis which has been done by seeing only sided aspects, not the whole aspect of works of Cho, Hwang.
To see the semantic structure of 『Samjuksaryu』, it can be seen that on its surface, there is content of confucianism in a sense. But the fact should never be overlooked that on the other side, his works reflect the humble realistic aspect of Cho, Hwang himself which had to bring forth the confucianism in the front. Through this it can be verified that works of Cho, Hwang not only pursues the presentation of ideology, but also was selected as an alternative for the overcoming of reality.
Base on the semantic structure verified above, the awareness of reality by Cho, Hwang can be verified. It is that the shape of Cho, Hwang who intended to leave his name by bringing forth the confucian legitimacy and the shape of him as the realistic being are expressed. It can be verified that he himself is a person who succeeded the confucian legitimacy but he is lamenting about his situation where he can not overcome the realistic circumstances.
Through this, it can be verified that 『Samjuksaryu』?by Cho, Hwang is a work which not only emphasizes the idealistic character, but also intended to express the circumstances of the author himself. Also, the awareness of reality by the confucian scholar in the late Joseon era and their coping method can be verified and the work of Cho, Hwang is utilizing the instructive sijo(Korean poem) in a unique manner.
