The purpose of this study was to analyze the basic operating structures of housing cooperatives around the world. The results of this study are as follows: 1) Typical business type of housing cooperatives are renting, selling or maintaining of homes for members. 2) It is the housing cooperative for renting, as the wide spreaded business type, that a cooperative owns housing stocks for renting to members. 3) It is the housing cooperative for selling, as like a housing developer, that a cooperative builds houses for selling to members. 4) It is the housing cooperative for maintaining, as like a devoted and passionate conservator of housing quality, that a cooperative maintains members’ homes. 5) Because of enactment of FRAMEWORK ACT ON COOPERATIVES, housing cooperatives, as above, would be well adopted in Korea. 6) Housing cooperatives are expected that would solve some housing problems in Korea, such as housing market failure due to decrease of demand for home buying, high-rising price of housing lease on a deposit basis, and so on.
