The ‘Firefly Exploration’ is one of the programs of Muju Firefly Festival. This program offering the participants a kind of ecological experience can be classified a form of local public goods, and therefore the welfare benefit estimation from this program needs to utilize non-market valuation techniques. This study employs the travel cost method (TCM) to calculate the consumer’s surplus as the welfare measures of the program and analyzes 326 visitor sample data to guess the functional form of the exploration tour demand. The average individual consumer’s surplus appears to reach approximately 56 thousand Won to 67 thousand Won, and the total consumer’s surplus, that is the social value of the program, is estimated to range from approximately 530millionWon to 640 million Won in the year of 2011.
