Netting accounted for the biggest part of fishing gear and culture facilities are very flexible and heavily influenced by Hydrodynamic forces. Furthermore, Hydrodynamic forces on the netting are changed according to current, attack angle, material and others. So, It must be accurately decided to calculate the hydrodynamic forces on fishing gears in connection to drag coefficient and lift coefficient. This study is a basic research to establish the hydrodynamic coefficients. For this study, he tests at the flume tank were performed to measure the hydrodynamic forces for the 8 kinds of nettings, which have different mesh size, but the same total projected area with the same twine thickness. In order to establish the standardized hydrodynamic coefficients of the nettings, the coefficients were derived according to Reynolds number. The range of attack angle on net is 0~90° in the 15° interval. Flow velocity range is 0~1.0㎧ in the 0.2㎧ intervals.
The results of the nettings tests were as follows;
1. Drag coefficient was influenced by Reynolds number.
2. Lift coefficient was not nearly influenced by Reynolds number.
3. The experiments were carried out with a relatively narrow range of Reynolds number(784-1960). Therefore, it did not clearly identify the changing pattern. In order to figure out a basic data for more efficient and safe fishing gear’s design, further experiments will be needed regarded to a large range of Reynolds number.
