This paper attempted to explore the characteristics of human rights discourse in Korean protestantism since the Democratization of Korea, centering on the conflicting opinions around the enactment of Anti-Discrimination Bill. Under the military regimes from the 1960s to the 1980s, Korean protestant progressive groups showed practical concerns over human rights issues in the public sphere, called as the champion of human rights movement. After the collapse of military regimes, under the Participatory Government, the National Human Rights Commision(NHRC) drafted the Anti-Discrimination Bill as a way of advocating the human rights of the minority groups. After revised partly by Government, the bill was sent to the parliament for approval. At the time, however, the conservative groups of Protestantism strongly opposed to the approval of the bill and lastly succeeded in removing some articles, specially on anti-discrimination in the sphere of sexual orientation. This debates suggests that Korean protestant conservative group`s view of human rights is seriously problematic, specially in the private areas, such as sexuality.
