The purposes of this study were to understand current status and to determine ways to improve tourism related reports in TV News in Korea by using contents analysis. KBS, MBC, YTN, and MBN News programs were selected based upon viewing ratings, and 1,717 reports were analyzed on the type of reports, themes, news sources, news values and the number of coverage. The key word was ‘Tourism.’ A total of 781 tourism related reports was broadcasted through KBS News, followed by YTN (466 times), MBN (293 times), and MBC (177 times) in 2012. Tourism related reports were highly appeared in May (10.7%), July (10.5%), and it was caused by tow big mega events, 2012 Yeosu Expo and 2012 London Olympic Games. In case of themes, tourism business or industry related reports were most highly broadcasted (16.8%), followed by introduction of tourism products (13.5%), introduction of tourism destinations (11.0%), festival and events (7.9%), and so on. The tone of the reporting was tended to both positive and neutral. It could be emphasized that tourism bodies must recognize the importance of broadcasting to build tourism related agenda in the society.
