The Korea’s foreigner immigrant support policy has formed the foundation by legally and systematically during short period relatively and it is evaluated that the infrastructure has been established for stable policy practices. “Then, do the citizens’ consciousness being changed for human race and cultural variety in our society in accordance with changing pace of policy and regulation?”
To meet the multicultural era in 21st century, this survey intended to confirm the effectiveness that a multicultural understanding education can affect to the multicultural sensibilities because the major group who occupied majority in Korean society has to stop insistence for a value of mono-cultural/mono-national and they have to encourage for multicultural sensibilities that can accept various culture and human race. In addition, this survey intended to search human/sociological factor which can affect to the multicultural sensibilities. As a result, we drew the following conclusions.
Regarding the effectiveness of multicultural understanding education in this survey, the following three (3) results have come out. First, no meaningful results were found regarding the whole multicultural sensibilities statistically in accordance with multicultural understanding education, which were conducted by Daegu Catholic University. Second, the multicultural understanding education has not affected to existing people identity and not shown as meaningful, but it is identified that a citizen has recognized as a severe social problem for the conflict between Korean and immigrant. Third, it is identified as meaningful partially for the multicultural understanding education effectiveness from the sub-domain, which consist of multicultural sensibilities. Especially, this education identified high effectiveness of transmission and acquisition for the information and knowledge for the multi-culture.
Regarding the factors affected to multicultural sensibilities based on this survey, older the catholicity of the multi-culture who is willing to grant a foreign worker (married immigrant woman) as a member of Korean society is higher. But lower for the multi-culture receptivity who is willing to grant a immigrant as a member of their family. Also it is identified that the multicultural sensibilities has affected positively when the people get in touch with foreigners closely as a friend rather than in case the foreign immigrant exists as a simple foreign neighbor.
If the period after year of 2000 was the time to prepare foundation for implementation to the multicultural society and the time to focus on supporting for immigrant who is minority in Korea, in the future society to come requires to be focused on expansion of multi-culture receptivity throughout the whole society. In order for accomplishment with same target of real social unification and coexistence by the whole members in Korean society, the intercultural and bilateral changes are required among all immigrants and natives. And continuous multicultural understanding education for citizen is required for change of recognition.
