Recent progress in reverse engineering from Computed Tomography (CT) scanner permits feature detection in 3D CT image of industrial part model. In this paper, we present a practical method for reconstructing a Bspline surface model from industrial CT image. The first step of our method is to segment the 3D volume data and detect the feature with 3D mask convolution. The next step consists of the point cloud selection and boundary curve construction. In this step, the boundary curve is constructed from the selected point and surface intersection. Finally, the surface is constructed from the selected point and the constructed boundary curve. The constructed surface is the combination of a free-form and primitive shape B-spline surface patch. The output of this step is the set of surface patches that share overlapping region at their shared boundary curve. This approach is widely used in the CAD industry and gives the continuity between the surface patches. Our method provides a framework, which leads to a paradigm shift of a surface reconstruction algorithm from industrial CT data in the term of robustness, flexibility, efficiency and control mechanism.
