The purposes of this paper are to evaluate the performance of current school bus routes used by Korean private elementary schools, to suggest an alternative to prioritize the satisfaction of parents and students rather than the efficiency of the schools, and to compare the results of the alternative with those of the classic school bus routing model. Although numerous studies have examined the school bus routing problem, this study addresses school bus routing at Korean private elementary schools because they are quite different from those of other-level schools. Moreover, this paper considers parents’ and students’ satisfaction as the most important consideration. Using quantitative methodologies to analyse the source of route generation problem, this research demonstrates that there is ample room for improvement in school bus routing of Korean private elementary schools to enhance customer satisfaction.
