As the speedy change of business environment, the Korean shipbuilding equipments industry is practicing the manufacturing innovation with the new technology for the global competitiveness. Adoption of ERP in this industry is the one of the cases. Although the industry is eager to grab the edge of the competitiveness, the implementation of this new technology shows the poor performance often. It is due to the operational gap between the characteristics of shipbuilding equipments industry and the built in standardization process in ERP system. The shipbuilding equipments industry does mainly OEM business with shipbuilders, in fact, its process is under lots of volatile conditions, such as non standard items, customer order changes, and due date changes, etc. Without fine tuning and practical adjustment, the process in standard ERP system will not work properly and its performance is to be very limited.
This research analyzes the mis-implementation of the ERP in a shipbuilding equipments company and shows the redesign details for the effective ERP performance, along with as-is, to-be BPR process focusing on sales process.
