The purposes of this study were to examine the mathematical relationship between the biomechanical characteristics and throw distance of javelin. In this study, a curve fitting was used for multidimensional analysis to emerge from conventional analysis method which assumes that independent variables and dependent variables form one-dimensional relationship. Eight elite javelin throwers (5 males, 3 females) participated in this study. The results of this study were as follows. First, a variable which has a significant relation with good records of elite javelin throw athletes is the release velocity of a javelin. Therefore, the strategies for improving the release velocity of javelin are needed. Second, technical trainings for trunk rotation and power transfer or shifting across upper-limb segments instead of the increase of release heights are required for male athletes during javelin throw. In order to achieve these goals effectively, it is important to focus on strengthening the power zone. Third, female javelin throwers need to have the shorter acceleration time and the longer acceleration distance. For this, it might be effective to perform trainings for extending trunk and upper arm with an elastic band. In addition, technical trainings for maintaining the maximum extension of the supporting leg and increasing the approach velocity are necessary.
