Facing the internationalized ear, cultures in the world show an assimilation trend in the process of confliction, interchange, adoption, and fusion. Particularly, introduction of English has realized international unification of letters and languages and English has taken a positive role as a global communication tool. However, this globalization of English has raised some various malfunctions and one example is the demise of some languages that are used by minor nations. Thus language ecology confronts a disruption for the first time in its history. Therefore, many scholars are actively studying to preserve the Korean language and to adopt the foreign words in proper way and they assert the "globalization of Korean language," making great efforts not only to protect the Korean language but also to spread the Korean language to overseas countries. However, in using letters, it is urgently needed that language protection and preservation movement must be carried out not only in the fields of linguistics but also in the fields of design where letters are used in visual and emotional means of communication. To meet for this need, several professors and researchers including Professor Duseop Kim (2004) have carried out "Lala Project" with the maxim of "Restoration and Preservation of Pure Korean Designig" and pursue the target of "Let"s design in Korean in Korea." Therefore, it was necessary to research how much the foreign letters including the representative foreign language English are influencing upon designing the urban environments. Thus, the purpose of this research is to identify in detail the current status of using foreign letters in designing urban street in the background of current status of socio-cultural phenomenon. This research focuses on malfunction of internationalization and suggests the seriousness of contaminating pure Korean culture. In particular, this research stresses the fact that adoption of foreign words in design field must be done with resonable recognition and evaluation.
