The purpose of this study was to pursue the stereoscopic methods of stereoscopic 3D (S3D) images, capable of providing the sense of solidity and floating by using a half mirror.
A projection system called magic vision, which produces a visual effect by reflecting a picture on a half mirror, can create mysterious impressions. However, the observer can"t feel the sense of solidity because the image itself is plane while a object in the image is solid. To solve this problem (to create this sense of solidity), we focused on the shape of the half mirror that reflects the image. To test the hypothesis that observer can feel the sense of solidity stronger by using S3D, We examined through projection experiments. As a result, We found the way reflecting the active shutter S3D glasses which is project to the reflective screen from a projector on a warped half mirror which faces to observer, is the most effective technique to show 3-dimentional image providing further sense of solidity.
Furthermore, it is thought that the method will be utilized not only for an entertaining content but also for historical materials exhibited in a museum.
