A flexible display has been drawing attention of the market as the next generation technology. There has been also a growing interest in wearable devices and it is announced that major manufacturers plan to incorporate the flexible display. A wide range of display applications in line with the advent of the flexible display are also expected to form a new market trend. Amid the current market interest in the technological aspects, the flexible user interface and design usability are away from the center of attention and which therefore flexible (deformable) user interface of wearable watch will be discussed in this study. We will look into the technical concept of flexible display and choose two wearable devices to analyze the design elements of flexible user interface such as text, image, icon and layout. A prototype was created and tested to identify technical problems in use of hardware and software, and the interview with test users has been also conducted.
The study has the significance of usability problem analysis and guideline as an observation study on the flexible display that has not been broadly commercialized yet. Hopefully the study offers a firm foundation as a guideline for UI design of flexible display.
