Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the experience of schizophrenic"s employment retention. Methods: The study design was a qualitative research with eight schizophrenic participants. The participants had employment experience over six months and the data were collected through in-depth interview between January and February 2013. Colaizzi"s phenomenological research approach was used to analyze the data. Results: The four categories were drawn from 12 themes: "Proceeding their career experience through suitable task for their abilities", "controling their condition and advancing", "sharing the experience with supportive people", "overcoming their condition and hoping life as a normal person". Conclusion: To schizophrenic participants, retention of employment means maintaining their life as not a patient with mental disorder but a normal social member. Therefore, rehabilitation facilities for psychiatric patients and the local community must take an important role that support their employment by providing them with a phased psychosocial rehabilitation program.
