“(X+)P+Y+Yi Ban (+Z)” is a kind of commonly used construction in the written language of modern Chinese. It can express either comparison or analogy in a particular context. This construction is herein analyzed from three points of view including semantics, grammar and pragmatics. Then the constraint conditions for comparison as well as analogy are respectively concluded. Variables of X and Y in the construction play the key role in determining whether the whole construction express comparison or analogy; and also the implicitness and explicitness of Z is due to X and Y.
