Korean Journal of English Language and Linguistics 13-4, 869-888. This paper attempts to analyze the stress patterns of English verbs which involve a variety of morphological and prosodic combinations. First, it claims that, instead of NONFINALITY constraint, the effect of consonant extrametricality in verbs is achieved by the non-moraicity of the word final consonant due to the position-specific weight difference of syllable codas. Second, this study proposes the prosodic subcategorization of verbal affixes and extends it to pseudo-affixes.
