By using three methods for isolation of actinobacteria, we found many microorganisms as sources of physiologically valuable secondary metabolites. The total number of actinobacteria including some soil bacteria isolated were 1216, among which 92 strains showed antibacterial activity against Paenibacillus larvae, a pathogen of honey bee causing American foulbrood disease (AFB). Based on 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis, those were species in 11 genera: Streptomyces, Bacillus, Pseudomonas, Massilia, Chitinophaga, Kitasatospora, Actinomadura, Pseudosporangium, Actinoplanes, Amycolatopsis and Micromonospora. Among them, six strains were possible new species, which may produce new antibacterial compounds and be developed as ABF treatment drugs.
