Various researches related to cell manipulation have been continued in medicine and biology. Nowadays, a cell or a micro-particle manipulation using a microrobot has been studied in this field. Among various manipulation systems, an electromagnetic actuation (EMA) system is most popular because the microrobot using the EMA system can have wireless motion and high position accuracy. Previously, we proposed an EMA system with two stationary coil pairs (Helmholtz coils, Maxwell coils) for 2-dimensional (D) planar locomotion of a microrobot. However, because the microrobot has a simple cylinder shape, the microrobot was not appropriate to manipulate a cell or micro-particles. Therefore, we adopt a conventional micro-molding technique for the fabrication of the microrobot and proposed a new microrobot which has a desired shape and properties. For the characterization of the microrobot, we measured the pushing force of the microrobot by the changing applied current in Maxwell coil from 9A to 15A. As a result, the pushing force was measured from 4.52μN to 6.42μN. Finally, the proposed microrobot using EMA system was tested and validated through the manipulation of multiple micro-particles.
