The Architect design & engineering service industry can create the added value 1.4 times more than the manufacturing industry. And it can create new jobs 1.9 times higher than other industry. It is why the Government and Architect Design Industry try to establish the nation-wide growth plan.
The local architect design engineering market is broken down to the design service and the engineering service. Although the global trend shows the integration between the design and the engineering, but the local academia divides education curriculum separately. the architect design & engineering service customer groups create several different business model. In order to service supplier groups should meet what the customers want.
According to the international market survey groups, the international architect market size shares about 30% of the total market. And the pure design & engineering service market is estimated around 10% of the total architect market. It means the annual offshore market size of the architect design & engineering service is around $ 2.1 billion in 2013.
In order to be ‘international top 5’, the local laws and regulations related with architect design & engineering service including the procurement method should be compatible with the global market. The Korean architect design industry can be neither the international top 5 nor surviving at the local market without globalization. The offshore market penetration strategy and plan require a long term and continuous investment. And also one who wants to make a business in the offshore market should have localization strategy.
The Government has a duty to transform the business governing rules into globally accepted practice, while the Industry has to set a self-reliance program how to compete with the global leading business player group. The Engineer or the Specialist has to arm his/her own professional knowledge and experience requested by the global market demand.
The local architect design & engineering service industry has to find its business market in the offshore market, not the local market.
