As today’s architecture is disposed of, like it is consumed, once its purpose has been achieved, local environment is being damaged and contaminated while resources are wasted. Within such consuming environment of modern architecture, the architecture of Rafael Moneo contains the desire for perpetual existence transcending time. The architecture designed by Moneo enjoys self-standing life and stimulates surrounding environment, which activates a chain reaction that opens new construction. Rafael Moneo realizes the potentiality of environment and land in his architecture so that the architecture would have independence and perpetuality. He reflects metropolitan, cultural and historical context of land on his architecture in unique way. The location interpretation of Rafael Moneo stands on the physical environment and continuity of history. He reinterprets and reflects past architectural space with perception on modernity. The architecture of Rafael Moneo expresses the re-interpreted locality through adaption and resistance and generation. Then the architecture achieves both autonomy and perpetuality by relocating the locality and regenerating the regionality.
