The purpose of this research is to identify and compare the status of using cellular phone text message of Korean, Japanese and Australian undergraduate students.
There are significant differences in frequency(Korean, Japanese and Australian in order, X²=55.17, p<.001)). Most of students answered that motivation of using text messag is “get interesting from TV and Journal” in Australian students and “because my friends, boy friends (girl friends) and family are all using the text message” in Korean and Japanese student(X²=475.47, p<.001). The main content of cellular phone text message is “engagement or connection for meeting or visiting” and “communication the emotion and the things happened at that time” in order in Korea and Japan, but “communication the emotion and the things happened at that time” in Australia(X²=126.09, p<.001). The purpose using the text message is “although not so important, but when there is something to communicate” in Korea and Japan, but in Australia the answer is “when want to call someone in the early morning or in the night”(X²=243.04, p<.001). In the change of communication after using cellular phone text message, 12.8% of Australian student answered that “the frequency of meeting their friends in person is increased” and 34.4%, 39.9% in Korea and Japan in respectively(X²=216.61, p<.001). 24.8%, 40.6% and 61.0% of Australian, Japanese and Korean student answered that “the frequency of phone call is increased” in respectively(X²=33.04, p<.001). There is no significant difference in affinity before and after using text message between three countries(X²=9.2, p=0.162).
