There is a tendency in the world trade that bilateral agreements and partnership of different countries are increasingly prevailing, and the changes in industrial structure and economic environments are concurrent with another changes in the quantity of goods transported in each country.
In order for the port of Busan to have a global competitive edge under the circumstances, it’s required to introduce state-of-the-art equipment, to provide incentives for attracting shipping companies, and to operate more feeder container ships as a way of increasing transshipment traffic volume on a long-term basis, not merely on a short-term one. The government should stimulate Busan North and New Ports to join forces instead of overly competing with each other, and the government’s excessive right to manage wharves should be downsized.
