Gas phase chemicals by chemical accident and terror have volatile and reactive characteristics which affect on human health and ecosystem, so it is important to detect and identify the chemicals immediately as soon as possible. Recently a variety of detection
methods have been reported including indicator, sensor, spectrophotometer, chromatography, analyzer etc. but it is difficult to find proper detection methods because they have some limitations to detect unstable toxic gas phase chemicals considering selectivity and sensitivity. As it is needed to find out unknown chemicals released to the environment by chemical accident or terror, we would like to propose the rapid and effective detection method for the identification of hazardous chemicals in the gas phase.
In this study we introduced detection methods using metal porphyrin complexes. Metal porphyrin complex are prepared on the reverse phase silicagel plate and exposed to gas phase chemicals. Color change was observed in the metal porphyrin complex exposed to acrylic acid, hydrochloric acid, in addition RGB(Red Green Blue) value was calculated to confirm the difference of color change. These results might be caused from the activity of chemicals used in the exposure experiment and could be useful to develop the
method for the detection of gas phase chemicals difficult to detect with previously reported methods.
