The rationale of the structure of Chinese characters refers to the reason to the creation of Chinese characters. FU Sheng refers to the dots and lines on the feathers of birds and furs of beasts when creating the Eight Diagram according to 《說文·?》 while CANG Jie refers to the footprints of birds and beasts when creating Chinese characters, providing clues to the structure of early Chinese characters on birds and beasts. By analyzing the structure of ancient Chinese characters on birds and beasts, this paper points out that observation on the patterns of feathers and furs and footprints of birds and beasts is the foundation of Chinese characters on birds and beasts. This paper also proves that rationales behind Chinese character creation can be analyzed though their formation and structure.
