Rainfall-induced landslides are known to be triggered by heavy rainfalls and prolonged rainfalls. Landsliding Management in urban areas requires some considerations such as various sizes of landslides, slow and rapid movements of instability problems, debris flow and rainfalls. The most important aspect concerns the consequences of failure in terms of economic loss, human injury and loss of life. The objectives of this paper, in the framework of the KOREA FOREST SERVICE sponsored project is to provide necessary preparations for the actual conditions of the landslide vulnerable areas in Korea; moreover, we will introduce a result of this research on how to survey the actual conditions of landslide vulnerable areas in republic of Korea. First of all, the survey area has the 78,000 spatial vulnerability of buildings including hospitals and schools on red zone area which is determined by the results of RWM(Random Walk Model) from Korea Forest Research Institute. Secondly, the decision table designed by Korea Forest Research Institute examine the landslides and debris flow areas for risk assessment. Lastly, research site s under different types of the geological environment for monitoring and modelling were selected and analyzed. The results of this project provide a tool for local researchers to determine the effects of certain mitigation measures and furthermore, they can use a cost-benefit analysis for the actual conditions of landslide vulnerable areas of Korea. The database can serve as an important tool in the disaster preparation phase of disaster management at the municipal level.
