There are three challanging subsea tunnel projects in Korea. The four routes have been considered in Korea-Japan subsea tunnel. The route from Busan to Karatsu through Tsushima island and Iki island is 222.6km long and the tunnel construction will cost about 76 billion US dollar with 15 and 20 years. It should cross big faults and the unconsolidated layers with 400m in thickness. There are four alternative routes proposed cross Yellow sea between Korea and China, i.e, Inchon to China Weihai(362km), Hwaseong to Weihai(374km), Pyeongtaek to Weihai(380km), and North Korea Ongjin to Weihai(221km). The main rock types are gneiss, granite, and sedimentary rocks. The ground condition is relatively uniform. The cost of the subsea tunnel construction is estimated about 103 billion US dollars. Its construction is required about 20 years. The feasibility to build a 73km long subsea tunnel was conducted to connect Jeju island and Bokil island through Chuja island. The tunnel construction will cost 12 billion US dollars with 11 years. It should cross the unconsolidated layers with 200m in thickness near Jeju island. The paper describes briefly the three ultra long subsea tunnel projects and the geological conditions to be encountered during construction.
