This is the first part of a paper series about the biological analogy in japanese architecture in the 1960-70s. The purpose of this study is to analyze the botanic analogy used by japanese metabolists including Kenzo Tange and Arata Isozaki. Japanese metabolists have employed the tree forms, its mode of growth and manufacture, and even its environments for their architecture. We must focus on their biological analogy because their reflection of "nature" based on the technology will provide clues for the culture of the changing today from "human-centered world" to "nature-centered world". An attempt to recombine the image of a living organism, such as growth, division, exchange, change, and dissolution, circulation, by the advanced architectural technology should give some positive thinkings to resolve the problems of modern city.
