Recently, the technology for Desktop Virtualization(VDI) is rapidly improving due to its advantage of centralizing distributed desk images, along with its strength on data security. In particular, open-source KVM, that has been developed on top of Linux kernel, can reduce the management overhead in controlling the distributed desk images, by introducing the hardware virtualization support. However, in the current KVM implementation, each VM is statically assigned to a client at the initialization step. As the number of VMs using KVM increases, choosing the right VM that is appropriate for the application access patten becomes important because it can significantly affect application execution performance. In this paper, we propose the optimized VM mapping method where VM assignment to each client can dynamically be performed based on user workloads.
