This paper proposes a new intra-mode coding method in order to improve coding efficiency for High-Efficiency Video Coding standard (HEVC) which involves an increase in the number of intra-modes. Proposed intra-mode coding method uses a correlation between intra-modes and adjacent pixels. The correlation is that the occurrence rate of each intra-mode is different in about five times, depending on the distribution of adjacent pixels. The experimental results showed that the proposed method achieved an average bitrate reduction of 0.19% with only negligible additional computation time.
