In this study, elite players who played in and won 2011-2012 world championships and international competitions were analyzed: 12 tournaments of 4 competitions (46 games including finals, semi-finals, and quarter-finals). This study aims to provide basic data for establishing strategies and training methods based on the detailed data by analyzing the skills which players attempted in the real game to make a score and identifying strengths and weaknesses of the skills. The results of analysis were as follows:
First, among the total 7,059 skills attempted in games, 4,456(63.1%) backhands and 2,603 forehands were attempted, and with regard to the drive which is a basic technique, BD and FD accounted for 34.1% and 16.8% respectively. Scoring rates on backhand in descending order are as follows: BD(20.0%), BV(19.8%), BP(16.3%), FV(12.3%), and FP(11.0%). Loss rates on backhand in descending order are as follows: BD(19.6%), FD(16.7%), BV(13.2%), BP(12.3%), and FV(10.4%).
Second, scoring rates of winning games in descending order are as follows: BV(20.7%), BD(20.5%), BP(16.1%), FV(12.6%), and FP(10.4%), and the rates of technique level 3 (Strong) in descending order are as follows: BD(32.9%), FD(20.2%), BV(16.7%), and BP(10.0%). The rates of technique level 1 (Weak) in descending order are as follows: BD(34.0%), FD(18.9%), BV(9.4%), and BP(9.4%), and loss rates in descending order are as follows: BD(19.8%), FD(15.5%), BV(13.5%), and BP(12.1%).
Third, scoring rates of losing games in descending order are as follows: BD(17.4%), BP(17.4%), BV(14.5%), FP(14.4%), FD(11.5%), and FV(10.1%), and the rates of technique level 3 (Strong) in descending order are as follows: FD(41.7%), BD(25.0%), FV(16.7%), BP(8.3%), and BV(8.3%). The rates of technique level 1 (Weak) in descending order are as follows: BD(30.4%), FD(17.4%), BV(13.0%), FP(8.7%), FS(4.3%), BL(4.3%), FL(4.3%), and BB(4.3%), and loss rates in descending order are as follows: BD(22.7%), FD(20.0%), BV(12.7%), FV(9.0%), BP(8.1%), BB(8.1%), FP(6.3%), and FB(4.5%).
