This study aims to re-establish the meaning of inquiry which is the main purpose of grammar education by defining grammatical competence and its nature. What the grammatical competence means is to find out a grammatical problem and to figure out any proper solution with the help of a reasonable decision-making process. Inquiry is here a kind of thinking way which experiences the whole process of solving the grammatical problems. Therefore, inquiry is a crucial method as well as contents in grammar education in that the grammatic competence can be developed not from studying the stereotyped investigation but experiencing the inquiry itself.
