The objective of this article is to examine the politics of Latin America without Chavez by focusing on three questions: What will the fate of the Bolivarian revolution? Who will fill the power vacuum left by Chavez’s death? Will solidarity between the ¡°pink-tide¡± countries of Latin America continue? It appears that the future of the Bolivarian revolution is uncertain as it has been overly dependent on Venezuela’s oil revenues and the charisma of Mr. Chabez. Nevertheless, the Bolivarian revolution will almost certainly continue it’s socialist course even though it’s intensity and speed may be diminished, because procedural democracies in Latin America have now been consolidated and the rightist party has failed to provide an alternative to left-winged governments. But, it is not clear if a Latin American leader with such vast resources and charisma as Chavez had will emerge to take his place. There is no obvious person waiting in the wings except perhaps the present leader of Brazil who could construct a regional post-neoliberalism model more moderately and pragmatically. If this occurs, the pink-tide of cooperation and solidarity will continue even if it is not so forthright.
