To develop Busan New Port as a dominant global logistics center, various new logistics business model should be created and settled down in hinterland area of the port. As most of the existing port logistics businesses are focused on simple transshipment between regional ports and ocean routes, low value-added logistics activities used to be pointed out as a big weakness of Busan port’s low competitiveness.
With this awareness, we tried to develop new logistics business model for Busan New Port and found some opportunities in agricultural products and agrifood supply chain among northeast asia. Through the analysis of trade statistics and in-depth interview with on-site managements, we suggested two kinds of logistics business model for Busan new-port hinterland to invigorate the trade of agricultural products and agrifood.
The first model, named to “Innovative Consolidation Logistics Biz model”, is focused on Japanese general trading companies’ SCM needs.
The second model, named to “Wholesale Logistics Biz model focused on Chinese market”, is dealing with processed food and highly quality controlled fruits that could attract multiple wholesale companies in China-Korea-Japan intra-trade zone.
