All organic living things can adapt to the surrounding environment through procedures of birth -> growth -> ripening -> aging -> extinction. And aging process is the preparing of the rebirth. Also it is expected to have a long life by predicting and protecting from sudden tabescent circumstances. Lifespan of the building is like a lifespan of the organic living things. It could be estimated and maintained by the durability of the building and the function adapting to life. As they’re known, architecture is a container of life. And it could be changed too by the analogy of changing in the contents and the form of life. Our task is to make the building system sustainable for a long time with flexibility which could be contained within this.
Flexibility is important as the behavioral science conception to cope with the growth and changing. Various alternatives are suggested and realized in order to fulfill this. At this time, the most fundamental and essential things are as follows. Firstly, the module setting as a basic mechanism for combination and distribution (there are three types of modules including sociocultural module, industry economic module, and architectural space module) is the essential one. Systems development and implementation for combining and distributing these modules are also important. These related factors and elements could not be interpreted as a linear structure. It could be a realistic alternative when this complex ecological circulation system is applied.
At this time, to see the things and phenomenon as a ecological matter is not seeing the objects as momentary or fixed view point, but approaching in a revelatory and holistic manner. Our main objectives for ecological and life-cycle management of mega-projects is to provide the practical space containing human life as organic living things. As like architecture could be realized when the building contain the life, volume and form could also be realized when the mass and shape contain the life. It is an ecological circulating system that an empty ground is used as a site for a place containing human life with specific purposes.
Large convergence and rapid transit of modern society is the factor to make changes of life environment. And the scale, contents and the frequency are enormous. A fixed and narrow viewpoint makes it very difficult to realize the ecological management of buildings throughout the project life cycle. Biological, organic, dynamic, and flexible action is the only possible way as to holistic interpretation and ecological approaching.
