We examined the habitat use of the great cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo) occupying Uiam Lake in Chuncheon, Korea, which is situated along the North Han River. Great cormorants breed along the Soyang River, and subsequently disperse to foraging grounds, including Gapyeong, Chuncheon Lake, Hwacheon County area of Soyang Lake, about 22 km away from the breeding site. During the breeding season, these birds have been observed foraging at Uiam Lake and the North Han River. After breeding, a wide distribution of these birds is observed downstream of the river. In 2013, 343 adult male and female great cormorants arrived for breeding, leading to the construction of 152 nests. After breeding, the cormorant population increased to 783 individuals.
