Korea has been facing to a few challenges, overcoming division of nation and unification regarding the Korean national history, re-arrangement of order and Korea’s status regarding the East-Asia history, and a process of globalization and transition of civilization regarding the world history.
‘History is futurology’. History can suggest countermeasures and policy models for today through a process of selecting and interpreting a compatible situation from the past. There are some similarities observed in international order of the 5th century when the greatking, Gwanggaeto and King Jangsu existed compared to today. Apolicy for national development that they both pursued was macroscopic, dimensional and had a munique view of the world. Ultimately, it was successful.
The article interprets military activities and a process of territorial expansion as a policy for national development. It establishes an interpreting model through a mixed use of socio-scientific approaches and analyzes using a deductive method.
The policy that the greatking, Gwanggaeto pursued was ‘completion of land and sea nation’and ‘role as the core mediator of East-Asia Mediterranean’. In other words, it is a role as the core of political diplomacy, the hub for resources and logistics, and the heart as well as the I.c(interchange) of culture. This ‘role as the core mediator of East-Asia Mediterranean’ theory stands valid and applicable in today.
