Report Errors
The biggest challenge in fostering a service firm is the willingness to share knowledge with other members. The main goal of this study is to investigate the structural relationships among social capital, organizational justice, and knowledge sharing in the service industry. To analyze the validity of the research model and the hypotheses, the data are collected from 492 employees of 38 service firms through the administration of structured questionnaires. Structural equation modeling is employed to test the structural model and hypotheses. The result shows that all of the three compositional dimensions in social capital (structural, cognitive, and relational capital) play a positive role in encouraging members to share knowledge. When considering the organizational justice as a moderating variable, we find that the effect of all the three dimensions of the social capital on the knowledge sharing is stronger for a group with a higher level of distributional or interactional justice than a group with a lower level. The result suggests that organizations can enhance performance gains when they carefully combine social capital, organizational justice, and knowledge sharing. Reasons for and implications of these observed relationships are discussed.
