As one of spatial vocabularies to create a variety of meanings of modern age, "Narrative" is applying to diverse areas such as animation, film, game, advertisement, theme park and sports.
This study will investigate if a lot of different spaces except for a display space express narrative features, although they apply to an experience space, generally. In particular, it focuses on interior space of Nigel Coates who uses narrative as a major architectural language, as an interior space designer representing it.
He lays stress on expression of architectural communication delivered via spatial experience rather than regard architecture and city as separate objects, as his interior design shows. Normally, Nigel Coates displays a distinctive design expression, collage to composing a space with fragmentary situations and events and helps the audience experience various events in space rather than express a story, by employing consecutive scenes of time for interior space through a cinematic screen technique.
In order to find out not only application methods of narrative, but the possibility of application of various narratives, therefore, the architectural tendencies of Nigel Coates" works, and characteristics of narrative expression were analyzed in this study.
