The rapid increase in use of fossil energy needed for the Industrial Revolution after the 20th century caused serious environmental problems such as the exhaustion of fossil energy, air pollution and global warming. And the development of medical science, economic growth and advanced education, which were synchronized with those issues, raised the awareness of people of the importance and value of environment. Keeping pace with this trend, the Korean government enacted ‘Fundamental Law of Low-Carbon and Green Growth’, is executing the reduction of greenhouse gases by stage and is making effort to develop a renewable energy of low-carbon and high efficiency to secure green growth and national energy, carrying out various policies for renewable energy. Accordingly, this study has main purposes as follows; it examines the meaning and significance of renewable energy to modern space, analyzes the expressive characteristics of environmentally friendly residential conditions, looks into their meaning and significance and suggests a direction. Since this research is mainly about the environmentally friendly residential conditions to which renewable energy is applied, its research scope is limited to international and domestic environmentally friendly residential conditions. First of all, the study reviews the theoretical works on renewable energy and on this it conducts case studies and analysis through which the expressive characteristics of environmentally friendly residential conditions applied with renewable energy are examined.
