In the circumstance of increasing number of single-member families, decreasing number of family members, communication system in this information society, varying life styles, tendency toward design, and diversified occupations, the meaning of residential space in modern society has expanded from the resting place for family to a versatile one to cover activities for hobby, work, and friendship.
Furthermore, recent studies on exterior of apartments mainly focus on phenomenal identification of exterior characteristics and problems of domestic medium or high apartments, and they present basic data to reflect users’ identification individualities and preference on exterior design pursuant to behavior attributes. However, in spite of these progresses in this field, we don’t see any systematic reflection of the results on planning. It seems it stems from lack of synthetic view to integrate various information to convert into actual planning and design. The results from extraction of external section factors on thebasis of theoretical contemplation show the factors on building shape, section shape, and external design. Such factors were reviewed for the redeveloped area with more than 500 houses in the Gangnam area built post 2005.
This study aims to provide usefuldata for incoming plans by analyzing types and tendency of exterior design factors through identifying the problems on uniform and simple shapes and searching for methods to vary external shapes after deliberating the properties of external section designs of brand-name apartments by simplifying the exterior factors in the view point of shapes, not in the view point of planning.
