Recently, UHSS(Ultra High Strength Steel) usage is expanding in response to the higher safety performance and environment regulation and fuel economy requirement. However, UHSS usage is limited because of its lower formability. This problem can be solved by introducing PHS(Press Hardening Steel) which has excellent strength and formability. Initial usage of PHS is for only non-corrosive upper body structure part with uncoated or Al-Si coated material because Al-Si coated PHS doesn’t have enough anti-corrosion performance. To improve corrosion performance of PHS, many steel makers are developing several types of Zn base coated PHS and some product has already applied to vehicle. Each type of Zn base coated PHS has its own characteristics to meet corrosion requirement and difference performance. Besides corrosion requirement, there are many issues to use Zn base coated PHS like LME(Liquid Metal Embrittlement), micro crack, paint and welding issue, caused by surface Zn oxide. So, manufacturing technologies like hot stamping process, welding method and surface treatment method are also developed lively with material development. This development is leading to expand PHS usage into the corrosive underbody structure parts.
