The primary reason behind today’s difficulties in public architectural communication can be found in the situation in which we often fail in creating architecture that contains the contents of real life and culture. This lack of communication was a historical problem that occurred in the historical unfolding of modern architecture, and to properly discuss the problem and seek for a practical solution, efforts must be made to get to the heart of the historical problem. The genuine communication problem occurs when we encounter, experience, and understand a building. The fact that we cannot find a meaning can be the real reason for the failure of communication. If we regard the cause of this difficulty of communication as a problem of architectural creation, we will take over the task of self-examination, asking once again the overall methods of creating architecture, and, at the same time, be able to have a new prospect for breakthrough. To deliver an architectural experience that is in touch with cultural reality, architects should have a reasonable and high-leveled ability of cultural interpretation and a new understanding on expression. The creation of well-communicating architecture will become possible by understanding the contents of its cultural existence, and articulating and reifying its expressions. The language of expression can either be new or familiar. However, success of an architectural communication will depend on how real experience and its meaning are properly expressed in each architectural language. There are still many wisdoms to be learned and paths to be explored to create such architecture.
